PHYSICIAN VOLUNTEERS
About the Opportunity
Work in the Clinic provides the opportunity to hone clinical skills in an environment with limited resources and technical services. The participant will face a unique set of challenges and must be adaptive in diagnosing and treating patients. There are two types of opportunities for physicians:
- Long-term (4 weeks minimum) rotations through the RVPC for pediatric attendings and third-year pediatric residents, and
- Short-term posts available to pediatric specialists, neonatologists, obstetricians/gynecologists, and anesthesiologists
These are an unpaid, volunteer positions. Global Healing provides housing and medical evacuation insurance to all physician volunteers. The volunteer is responsible for transportation costs, food and incidental expenses while on-site.
Responsibilities
Volunteers will:
- Staff the Clinic from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. each day; specialists may work outside the Clinic
- Conduct all exams and record patient visits in Spanish
- Abide by local regulations and follow the direction of the Clinic Director and Hospital Director
- Read and understand the CDC Zika Virus Travel Information ( https://wwwnc.cdc.gov/
travel/page/zika-travel- information ) and to adhere to the CDC guidelines for minimizing exposure risk
Eligibility
Non-U.S. physicians are encouraged to apply. The following physicians are currently eligible to apply to volunteer opportunities:
- Pediatric primary care attendings
- Third-year pediatric residents
- Family medicine attendings
- Pediatric specialists
- Neonatologists
- Obstetricians/gynecologists
- Anesthesiologists
Candidates must demonstrate:
- Written and spoke fluency in Spanish
- Valid license from country of origin to practice
- Willingness to serve in Roatán for one month or longer (pediatric primary care attendings and third-year residents only)
